Dello stato di New York, i Caroline Blue sono un trio solido e ben quadrato dedito ad un melodic rock vecchio stampo che prende ispirazione dai Kiss senza mai risultare una loro cover band, tanto meno figurare pacchiani e privi di personalità. Anzi, i nostri appesantiscono i suoni in fase di riffing, e viaggiano con una sezione ritmica più potente ed aggressiva garantendo un preciso marchio di fabbrica. “Slaves To The Hourglass” è la loro prima fatica in studio, un EP di cinque tracce( più due hidden tracks che non aggiungono molto in materia di contenuti: una song acustica, strumentale, ed una telefonata di Wayne che pubblicizza il disco ad una radio), dinamico e senza fronzoli che bada al sodo lasciando intravedere una poderosa propensione alla dimensione dal vivo(vastissimo il numero di cover che propongono oltre ai propri brani). La title-track e “Queen Of Pleasure”, in tal senso, fanno la loro bella figura esprimendo al meglio il concetto di “wall-of-sound”. Sugli scudi sicuramente Wayne Johnson, vocalist e chitarrista determinato e viscerale che trascina tutte le composizioni in un vortice fatto di elettricità e sudore pagando dazio di certo a Paul Stanley, tuttavia in grado di comunicare personalità e grinta. La produzione, purtroppo, non è delle migliori. I suoni sono troppo ovattati, e la batteria troppo “ottantiana”, ma stiamo pur parlando di una sorta di autoproduzione, e quindi di mezzi a disposizione limitati.
Next big thing? Potrebbe essere. Le potenzialità non mancano, così come la determinazione ad affermarsi(furente il lavoro di promozione in rete, organizzato ed assai dettagliato). Da segnalare, in ultimo, che l’attuale formazione è diversa
da quella che ha registrato questo EP(Wayne a parte), e quindi non ne conosco l’effettiva valenza, ma stando a quanto afferma chi ha assistito ai loro show recentemente le prestazioni dovrebbero essere anche migliori.
In attesa del full-lenght, un aperitivo di quelli forti da “aprirti” per bene lo stomaco.
