Pics of CAROLINE BLUE live @ Hotel Adams in Adams, NY on Thursday New Years Eve 12/31/09. (Nicole)
Hi Everyone!
-Here’s the recap for the wild time we had @ Hotel Adams in Adams,NY on Thursday-New Year’s Eve Eve-12/31/09. It was snowing off & on thruout the day. We got all loaded off & took off by around 3 or so. As usual, I fell asleep for most of the trip up there. Course, around this time it gets darker sooner so….
-We arrived at Hotel Adams and settled in as normal-usually w/ dinner before getting the gear unloaded. It was easier/quicker this time because we had the opening band, Skitzo Panic (AKA Sunday Asylum) helping us out. Then we basically hung out till show time.Doing equipment checks, talking to people, taking pics, making fun of Joe-the usual 🙂 Joe did get 4 (that I heard) comments of “Is that a girl?” because of the coat he was wearing (see pics) plus we had a little fun in regards to a cymbal that he left behind our last show there. Usually, if Joe breaks a cymbal at a show, we all autograph it and leave it at the bar. well, the last time, Joe only wanted his signature on the cymbal. Me & Doc didn’t really care, but it did get our soundguy a lot of ammo to use per say-look at the pics to see what happened 🙂 It was with erasable ink and just done in good fun-although Joe did initially get pretty bent out of shape about it. But you have to slay the “monster” when it’s small right? 😉
-This was Skitzo Panic’s 1st show and, even though they practice just down the hall from where we rehearse, this was my 1st time seeing & hearing them. They did a great job-and they played all originals. They even got their own show out of it-which was great. Just be careful if you’re at one of their shows or you might get slammed into by Tony 🙂 Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/skitzopanic
-Then we went on. Since we had an opener & this was New Year’s Eve, the plan was to play till we got to the countdown, and then continue playing till 2-there was no all night license this night. We had a good sized crowd here and had some pretty wild moments. Here’s the set list…

-I might of said this during a past show recap @ Adams, but the crowd here generally likes the heavier stuff. We had people coming up stage just to shake our hand and/or gives kisses and or just to yell something that resembles the English language (HA!).. We had a few people who had a little too much to drink and fall on the floor right in front of us. This one girl was really toasted and bumped into this one big guy. She then grabbed my mic, turned to him and said “Did you just say “Move over Bitch!”? ” -and several more times. Her friends had to come drag her off the stage-after she fell on the ground of course. Hope she’s OK.
-Then we had this one guy who kept lifting up his shirt to show off his pieced nipples.Luckily, he was mostly in front of Doc 🙂 During a few songs he also did this dance that was similar to what happens if someone dropped a hot coal down your pants (not that I’ve ever had that happen but….). He was a riot & I’m glad he had a good time.
-At the beginning of the show, I asked the crowd if they had a sucky 2009-and the whole bar yelled out! I then asked who had a good 2009 and the bar was dead quiet. Wow. admittedly, my 2009 wasn’t any worse than any other average year, but I do wish everyone a better 2010.
-Overall I think we did a good job. There were some rough spots at times, but i think we did good. My monitor wasn’t the best, but we didn’t soundcheck so you make due you know. Looking at the list, you might wonder why I did a Nickleback song acoustically by myself. After the Metallica song, Doc told me that he & Joe had to take a break. Not wanting to break the momentum, I told them to go ahead and I’d stay onstage and do the song I did-which went over pretty good! Kind of a deja vu moment from when i had to do a solo acoustic performance at a scheduled CAROLINE BLUE in July 2008. Could be an inteesting side gig 🙂
-Course, with no break meant that I played 3 hours straight-which I’d never done before. The last 1/2 hour or so I was starting to strain vocally so when 2 AM hit, I was pretty spent. On top of that, I was out talking to some people after we were done and I turned to go towards the stage and I hit my head right on the light truss that, although lowered, hadn’t been removed yet. Steel on bone does not feel good-OUCH! We also brought in some new covers and 2 out of 3 came out good. The 3rd one needs more work-or needs to be dropped. That’s the Jet tune BTW.
-We received some very nice compliments from people after the show and we are very thankful for that. We got everything together and headed back to the practice room to unload. We did stop at a Nice & Easy to get gas and, more importantly (to me at least) SUBS! I could live on those. Course, right when we got on the road again I fell fast asleep till we hit the room. Although only half the people were available to help unload, we still got stuff done quick. Then it was time to head home. I’m always a little leary about driving at night on New Year’s Eve because of the drunk drivers on the road. Although the road & weather was clear, if i took my normal route home they were almost all 2 lane streets so, even though it took longer, I took the thruway home and arrived at 7 A.M. where-after I got my gear inside, I did a quick status update on FB/My Space/Twitter and fell fast asleep. Aching, sore & exhausted-but alive & looking forward to a great 2010!
-From all of us at CAROLINE BLUE, I’d like to thank Keith & the whole Hotel Adams organization for having us this night. Looking forward to being back on 2/13-which happens to be my birthday. Also thanks to Art & Johnny for doing a good job & for Skitzo Panic for kicking big baby booty (and I’m talking about Jimmy’s-HA!). Most of all, we want to thank everyone who was here this night for joining us in welcoming the new year. Hope t see you all again at future shows!
-Looking forward to a lot of great things in store for CAROLINE BLUE in 2010!
