8/9/2010-MUSIC VIDEO-“Stay” Live At The Post Standard Building-Syracuse, NY

-On Monday, 8/9/2010, I went down to The Post Standard Building in Syracuse, NY with Azriel Mordecai (ZADOC…& THE NIGHTMARE). I was interviewed by Mark Bialczak-the music editor of The Post Standard-and me & Az did an acoustic version of “Stay.” Also included was guest drummer “Chachi.” 🙂 Click on the link below to watch the video. Under that is my recap of the day’s events.

STAY PERFORMED AT THE POST STANDARD

8/9/2010-“Stay” Live @ The Post Standard Building-Syracuse,NY

Current mood: busy
Category: Music

Music Notes Performance: Caroline Blue

-This started off in an interesting way. On Facebook I was looking at the Status Updates and saw Mark Bialczak-music writer for The Post Standard (newspaper in Syracuse, NY) & Syracuse.com-had posted an update on a band performing on his “Music Notes Performance” series. While I did have an interest in having CB in this series, I also contacted Mark because I wanted to know if I could rent out the white room he was having the bands perform in-that is needed for a planned music video shoot I have.

(BTW-if anyone knows and/or has access to such a place and it can be rented on the cheap-please let me know).

-Anyway, I contacted Mark and he told me all the details involved in this. A small interview and then 1 song performed acoustically. Out of all the CB songs, “Stay” lends itself to that the most-although I did toy around with doing another song-just for something different. In the end, we ended up w/ “Stay” with a slightly different take than the studio version. There’s a different intro, I sing it softer (and IMHO better) and there’s no solo. Without a 2nd guitar or the use of distortion, there was too much of a dropout when I went from rhythm to lead.

-Anyways, I asked Azriel Mordecai (Zadoc…& the Nightmare) to join me on this one. He brought along a “special guest” drummer-Grover-who I nicknamed “Chachi” for this performance. I took a 1/2 day off from work, got ready and drove down to The Post Standard building. After trying to get into the visitor’s parking lot a few times , we all got together and went inside.

-As we were getting ready, Mark asked some questions for the interview. Between me and Az, bad jokes were running amok in here 🙂 I think we scared the videographer, Ellen, numerous times. (HA). All in good fun though.

-We ran thru it once and it came out great except for one thing-my vocal wasn’t loud enough per say. We weren’t mic’d like in a live performance-everything was being captured by the camera’s mic. So we did it again, with me working to increase the volume-which I did-but it didn’t come out as good as the 1st take. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as “sweet” (Ellen’s words) than the 1st take. Also, I believe Az’s bass was louder in the 1st take. “Chachi’s” performance was constant thru out 🙂 We also found out something interesting about him at the end of the song 🙂

-After listening to the play back, we decided to go w/ the 1st one. In addition, we did a bit part at the end and the 1st time it was good but the 2nd time it was kinda flat. It didn’t have the spontaneity . So it’s the 1st one. In both takes I had issues w/ my hair wanting to cover up my face while playing.

-Then a photographer-Michelle-was brought in and took several shots of me & Azriel. We were told that there would be a pic in Thursday’s Weekend (comes with the Thurs. Ed. of The Post Standard) and the video would be up by that time as well. In addition to Mark’s site, there will be an embedding code so we can put it anywhere.

-I want to say thanks to Azriel for playing on this and Tracy Mordecai for taking pics of this-as well as getting “Chachi” primed for this :). Thanks also to Mark, Ellen & Michelle for all of this-we had a great time & we hope you guys did too 🙂
